Working for a Clean Energy Corps

ICP is working with a broad coalition of partners to advance the concept of a Clean Energy Corps (CEC) and expand "green jobs" and "green service" opportunities. A national Clean Energy Corps would mobilize millions of Americans to meet the dual challenges of global climate change and poverty reduction by:
  • Helping the United States transition to a clean energy economy;
  • Providing low-income youth with pathways out of poverty through skills training and service;
  • Offering citizens of all ages and backgrounds a means to take concrete action on climate change, and;
  • Uniting the country in a rapid, massive volunteer mobilization to reduce global warming.
As part of this initiative, ICP will conduct research on policies and programs around the world that are using youth service as a strategy to address global climate change. We will also be working with our partners to advance policies that address climate change by "greening" the economy. The CEC working group succeeded in its goal to create a clean energy service corps as a part of the Serve America Act on April 22nd, 2009.
