The IANYS 8th Global Conference a Smashing Success!

The IANYS 8th Global Conference on National Youth Service was an exciting conference in a beautiful city. From November 19-22, 2008, participants from across the world gathered in Paris, France to celebrate and learn about National Youth Service.  By all accounts, from the participation and networking, to the shared knowledge, the IANYS conference was a success. ICP Intern Elizabeth Brouwer traveled to Paris to attend the conference, along with ICP Executive Director Susan Stroud and Program Associate Jean Manney. Read More>>

Youth Service News

National Youth Service Launched 

South Africa - More than 4 500 young people helped to launch the National Youth Service (NYS) at the Grace Bible Church in Pimville, Soweto. The NYS was initiated by the national government in October 2003 as a special programme to focus on high levels of youth unemployment by creating opportunities for voluntary service and skills development among young people. Advancing Youth Social Entrepreneurship in Pakistan
Pakistan - Spectacular and unprecedented scenes of joy, excitement and hope were witnessed during the first-ever celebrations of Global Entrepreneurship Week Festival in Pakistan. The event was held at Pakistan’s premier Auditorium the Rawalpindi Arts Council from 16th to 19th November 2008. The event was organized under the theme of "Advancing Youth Social Entrepreneurship in Pakistan". Read More>>


Youth Service America Launches Semester-Long Campaign to Mobilize Student Volunteers
USA - Youth Service America (YSA) launches Semester of Service on January 19, 2009, a campaign to engage millions of young people across America in semester-long community service programs. Semester of Service links two highly-visible service events: Martin Luther King Day of Service in January and Global Youth Service Day in April. Read More>>

Youth Service Policy in Afghanistan

Around sixty-eight percent of Afghanistan's population is under 25 years old. Young people, with their social, economic and intellectual capabilities, are the future of Afghanistan and represent an important factor in moving forward through the peace and reconciliation process towards democracy, good governance, economic growth, and development. Afghanistan realizes the need of utilizing this enormous potential, the hopes and aspirations of its youth, to create a foundation on which the ongoing nation-building process can take roots and peace efforts can flourish. Program Spotlight: City Year

City Year unites young people of all backgrounds for a year of full-time service, giving them the skills and opportunities to change the world.  As tutors, mentors, and role models, these idealistic leaders make a difference in the lives of children, and transform schools and neighborhoods in 17 U.S. locations and Johannesburg, South Africa. Just as importantly, during their year of service corps members develop civic leadership skills they can use throughout a lifetime of community service. Read More>>

UN General Assembly Report on Youth Released
The UN recently released a report on "Implementation of the World Programme of Action for Youth: Progress and Constraints with Respect to the Well-Being of Youth and Their Role in Civil Society." The report addresses the progress achieved and the constraints that young people face in relation to their role in, and contribution to, civil society as well as the progress and challenges faced in ensuring their well-being.
