Summer of Service Resource Center Launched!
ICP is pleased to announce the launch of its new Summer of Service Online Resource Center. Made possible by the support of State Farm® and developed by ICP intern Katherine Felt, the Resource Center will act as a forum for information-exchange on Summer of Service program design, implementation and evaluation. The Summer of Service Online Resource Center includes:
ICP is continuing to
work to develop and expand the
Resource Center, and welcomes any and
all suggestions. If you have
materials to contribute,
information to share, or other
suggestions to improve the Resource Center,
please email Jean Manney at manney@icicp.org.
ICP is
also building a database of Summer of Service
programs. Programs are cordially invited to
enter information about their organizations
into the database via our Program
Survey.

Voluntary Work Identified as Informal Education Malta - The European Commission has launched a proposal aimed at "encouraging member states to improve the interoperability of national youth volunteering schemes in order to make it easier for a volunteer from one country to participate in the volunteering schemes of another." The following internships
are available:
Re-Imaging Teacher Education Meeting at Skywalker Ranch ICP Executive Director Susan Stroud traveled to San Francisco on June 25-28 to attend a meeting on re-imaging teacher education based on new design principles developed by Apple Classrooms of Tomorrow and the George Lucas Educational Foundation. ICP has been working on developing a "Pathways to Teaching" project that aims to address the challenges of U.S. teacher shortages and retention by tapping the pool of AmeriCorps members whose service focuses on education, children, and youth in disadvantaged U.S. communities.

Kathy Havens Payne, Senior Director of Education Leadership, State Farm Insurance Companies Interview by Katherine Felt, ICP Intern ICP recently spoke with Kathy Havens Payne, the Senior Director of Education Leadership at the State Farm® Insurance Companies. State Farm® is an active supporter of service-learning and has allowed for ICP to expand its work on the Summer of Service initiative. Kathy sits on the Board of Directors for the National Youth Leadership Council, Youth Service America and the National Service-Learning Partnership. In her conversation with ICP, Kathy spoke about the benefits of service-learning, the need for SOS, and the value of the new Resource Center. Read More>> |

International Youth Day – August 12th, 2008 By Alicia Lovett, ICP Intern This year’s International Youth Day will be the 9th annual UN-organized day to commemorate and inspire youth service. This year's theme on Youth and Climate Change: Time for Action is a topic with which ICP has long been involved through our support of a U.S. Clean Energy Corps and a “Green New Deal,” and through our on-going research into policies and programs around the world that incorporate youth service as a strategy to address global climate change. Kartikeya Singh and the Founding of the Indian Youth Climate Network By Gabriel González-Kreisberg, ICP Intern The Indian Youth Climate Network (IYCN) is a fledgling NGO that is attempting to serve as a coalition uniting like-minded non-profit groups with Indian youth under the umbrella of mutual concerns for the future of the environment.
