Youth Civic Engagement in East Asia and the Pacific

In May 2007, ICP was contracted to carry out a study on young people's civic engagement in the East Asia and Pacific region to inform programming options for UNICEF in this region.

As part of the study, ICP:
  • Developed a typology of young people’s civic engagement
  • Described policy and legislative frameworks for civic engagement of children and young people in countries with different political systems
  • Mapped existing initiatives and institutions supporting young people’s civic engagement in the region
  • Identified possible options for UNICEF support for young people’s civic engagement in the East Asia and the Pacific region
The final products for this project are a report for UNICEF with a focus on civic engagement programming options across the region and a database of programs in the region promoting civic engagement among youth ages 10 to 24.
