Services For Institutions of Higher Education
ICP works to strengthen the civic
roles of institutions of
higher education. We enable institutions and
their staff, students, and faculty
to build sustainable university-community
partnerships and embed social
responsibility in multiple dimensions of
campus life and work.

Network
Development
ICP works to connect
regional and national movements for
civic engagement, advocating for civic
engagement to be a core mission of
higher education and judged by the same high
standards of excellence, research,
and debate as other university endeavors. Our
current work builds on Susan
Stroud’s experience founding Campus Compact
and similar networks in
South
Africa
and Israel .
Knowledge
Exchange
ICP
collects and distributes information about
diverse experiences of
service-learning and community involvement
from around the world.
Strategic
Consulting
ICP
facilitates and encourages campus assessments
of civic engagement activities
and works with Universities to develop plans
for enhancing civic engagement on
campus.
Collaborative
Projects
ICP
works with Universities to build collaborative
projects, such as the Talloires
Global Project on Literacy – an opportunity
for universities from around the
world to cooperate in expanding and developing
their efforts to ensure everyone
can participate in a knowledge
society.
Conference
Organization
ICP
organizes conferences to stimulate discussion
on innovative strategies for
incorporating civic engagement into curricula.
In
partnership with
Tufts
University , ICP invited university presidents
from around
the world to a three day workshop in
Talloires , France
on strengthening the civic roles and social
responsibilities of higher education. The
conference resulted in the Talloires
Declaration and a network which continues to
expand today. Today ICP staffs the
Talloires Network, working with over 45
members on six
continents.
